Feb. 1st - Super Bowl Sunday - Enjoy the day whether your a Pittsburgh Steelers or Arizona Cardinals Fan or not a football fan. Spend some time with friends and family!

Feb. 2nd - "Give Yourself a Whack on the Side of the Head!" The more often you do something in the same way, the more difficult it is to think about doing it in a any other way. Break out of this "prison of familiarity" by disrupting your habitual thought patterns. Write a love poem in the middle of the night. Eat ice cream for breakfast. Wear red sox. Visit a junk yard. Work the weekend. Take the slow way home. Sleep on the other side of the bed. Such jolts to your routine will lead to new ideas. How can you whack your thinking? "Creative Whack Pack" by Roger von Oech

Feb. 3rd - "Look Somewhere Else" Finding new ideas is like prospecting for gold. If you look in the same old places, you'll find tapped out veins. But if you venture off the beaten path, you'll improve your chances of discovering new idea lodes. Remember: you can't see the good ideas behind by looking twice as hard at what's in front of you. Where else can you look for ideas? "Creative Whack Pack" by Roger von Oech

Feb. 4th - "Get out of Your Box" Each culture, industry and organization has its own way of looking at the world. Often the best ideas come from cutting across the disciplinary boundaries and looking into other fields. As journalist Robert Weider put it. "Anyone can look for fashion in a boutique or history in a museum. The creative explorer looks for history in a hardware store and fashion in an airport." In what outside areas can you look for ideas? "Creative Whack Pack" by Roger von Oech

Feb. 27th - In Memory of Harmon Fredric Adams Dedication - May 27, 1936 - March 1, 2008.

To go along with his quote this evening, The Stephens House digital display will present the photo that made Harmon so happy. He kept it front and center on his fireplace mantle. It was taken on August 21th, 2006 just after Harmon declared that on August 18th, he finally found an inner place of true peace and happiness that may have been evading him for so long. It was on that day that he experienced a real wilderness life and death accident/adventure along with Mike, his oldest son. Harmon cherished outdoor adventures his entire life; be that boating on the Puget Sound or San Juans, mountain climbing or the out of the way fishing that he so enjoyed. On Aug. 18, 2006 Harmon and Mike were alone in a river raft up the fabled Sambocharling River in remote, Western Alaska when danger struck. Maybe Harmon chose the remoteness of the trip in part to tempt fate. With a green guide, they literally found themselves in over their heads as the raft was sucked into a tributary log jam off the main thread of the river where sons Todd and Jeff worried that Harmon and Mike appeared to be lost. An air-rescue was summoned, but had to wait till the following dawn to locate them. They were all alone to fend for themselves. Harmon said that during his 16 hours missing, he never once experienced fear, rather a sense of euphoria overcame him knowing that he was having exactly the river wilderness experience alone with his three sons that he always wanted. When rescue finally came Harmon said, I have always been proud of you three, but now I know that you are capable adults, no longer boys, and you will be fine. If I happened to die when the raft flipped or during the night alone in the wilderness, I would have exited with the biggest smile I have ever had, I would have been just fine with whatever fate awaited me.

Feb. 28th - B.E.S.T. Hoopfest 2009 supporting the Bainbridge Schools Foundation will take place next Sunday, March 8th at the Bainbridge High School gymnasiums. Come play, watch or call to volunteer to officiate or score. March Madness!
